The New York Yankees front office and owner George Steinbrenner will possibly be looking to acquire "Japan's best player," Hideki Matsui, after a shocking defeat in the division playoffs, an article in The New York Times said Monday.

In the article, Steinbrenner is described as being shocked at the Yankees' loss to the Anaheim Angels in the best-of-five American League Division Series, but added the team that won the AL title the previous four years would be back.

"I'm telling you. We'll be back. We'll make all the decisions we have to make to get us back," Steinbrenner is quoted as saying.

The Yomiuri Giants' Matsui, in pursuit of the Central League Triple Crown, will likely be a strong candidate for a spot in the Yankees' outfield, the article states.
