South Korean veteran Ko Woo Soon came from behind to win the Japan Women's Open with a tournament record Sunday for her first major title on the Japanese tour.

Ko, who started the final round two strokes off the lead, carded the day's best score of 67 on her way to a 14-under-par 278 at Hakone Country Club -- the lowest total since the Japan Women's Open became a 72-hole event in 1982.

Ko moved into a tie for the lead with an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole and pulled away by making three birdies in the next four holes as she cruised down the stretch for a three-shot victory over third-round leader Huang Yu-chen of Taiwan.

The reward for her seventh career victory in Japan was the 14 million yen winner's check and a three-year exemption on the tour.

Huang finished at 11-under 281 after a 1-under 72, followed by money leader Yuri Fudo (71), Yuka Shiroto (72) and early tournament leader Lorena Ochoa of Mexico (75) in a tie for third at 7-under 285.
