Mexican Loren Ochoa shot a record 8-under-par 65 Thursday to grab the lead after the first round of the Japan Women's Open, the second major tournament of the year on the Japan LPGA Tour.

Ochoa had an eagle and six birdies at the Hakone Country Club in benign conditions to set an 18-hole Japan Women's Open record in relation to par as the 20-year-old took a two-shot advantage over Junko Omote with her 65.
