Hideki Matsui hit his league-leading 47th and 48th homers Friday and drove in three runs for the champion Yomiuri Giants in a 5-1 victory over the Yokohama BayStars in the Central League.
Matsui connected off Chris Holt (6-10) for a two-run blast in a three-run first inning and launched a solo shot into the seats in right field in the eighth to give Yomiuri a four-run lead at Yokohama Stadium.
Masumi Kuwata (12-6) allowed seven hits but held Yokohama scoreless without a walk in six innings and took the league lead in earned run average with a 2.22 ERA.
