The Yokohama BayStars on Thursday announced the resignation of manager Masaaki Mori, whose team has been pinned at the bottom of the Central League for the entire season.

Baseball sources said former Yokohama coach Daisuke Yamashita has been short-listed to take over from the 65-year-old Mori, although club officials declined to comment on his successor.

Mori was named Yokohama manager in 2001 on a three-year contract after steering the Seibu Lions to eight league pennants and six Japan Series titles in nine seasons between 1986 and 1994.
