The Japanese World Cup Organizing Committee will receive a compensation fee for the damages that the local organizer suffered with the World Cup ticketing process, JAWOC general secretary Yasuhiko Endo said on Tuesday in Tokyo.
"We have been informed that FIFA will pay the local organizer JAWOC some money as compensation for the problems of the ticket delivery delay and the empty seats in the stadiums," Endo said.
He refused to disclose the exact figure of the compensation but it is estimated to be about 80 million yen.
"(Paying the compensation to us) can show the attitude of FIFA and we can evaluate that," Endo said. "It is good to find who was really responsible for this (ticketing) problem. But the opportunities taken away from the fans to attend a 2002 World Cup match cannot be retrieved. We would love FIFA not to make the same problems any more."
According to Endo, the South Korean World Cup Organizing Committee is also expected to receive the compensation.
