Trailing Hungarian Adrian Annus' second throw of 80.03 meters, world silver medalist Murofushi came up with a final effort of 81.14 to pocket the winner's check of $50,000.

Annus was second, while compatriot Balazs Kiss took third with a throw of 79.74.

"The winds could have been a bit kinder today but I have accomplished my main goal for this season in winning this event so obviously I'm thrilled," said Murofushi, who also won the overall Grand Prix series title of the season.

"I was improving with every throw, so I knew I would have a chance and this victory has really boosted my confidence," he added.

Murofushi will be looking to follow up the win with a third straight title in Monday's Super Track and Field Meet in Yokohama, where he will face archrival and Sydney Olympic champion Szymon Ziolkowski of Poland.
