Japan's Miya Tachibana took silver for the best solo performance of her career at an international meet as she scored 97.334 points at a synchronized swimming World Cup meet on Friday.

Tachibana, who performed to "Don Quixote" in the free routine, preserved the position she took after Thursday's technical routine to finish behind Virginie Dedieu of France, who claimed top honors with 99.167.

Japanese compatriot Miho Takeda finished eighth. "Don Quixote was a tough song, but I think I was finally able to perform the way I wanted to.

More than placing second, I'm glad I was able to put on an energetic show," the 27-year-old Tachibana said. Tachibana and Takeda, the reigning duet world champions, later teamed up to place second after the technical routine behind Anastasia Davydova and Anastassia Ermakova of Russia.

The Russian pair earned 49.084 to 49.000 for Tachibana and Takeda. The duet free program is scheduled for Saturday.
