super flyweight champion Masamori Tokuyama has been forced to delay his sixth title defense scheduled for November due to an injury to his left hand, officials of his gym said Wednesday.
Tokuyama sustained the injury during his technical knockout victory over 12th-ranked Mexican challenger Eric Lopez at Saitama Super Arena on Aug. 26.
Kanazawa Gym president Hideo Kanazawa said he hopes to hold the title match in December with Tokuyama, a pro-Pyongyang Korean resident of Japan, likely to take on top-ranked challenger Gerry Penalosa of the Philippines. Tokuyama, who holds a record of 27 wins, including eight by knockout, two losses and one tie.
