Meanwhile, Japan teammate Shinji Ono set up the opening goal for Patrick Paauwe but a late equalizer from Tom Soetaers meant Feyenoord had to settle for a 2-2 draw away at Roda JC Kerkrade in the Dutch First Division.

At the Riverside Stadium, Inamoto replaced Steed Malbranque on the hour with Fulham two goals down, both coming from Middlesbrough's £8.5 million signing Massimo Maccarone.

Fulham boss Jean Tigana brought on Inamoto to beef up Fulham's attack and the decision almost paid dividends immediately as the former Arsenal man started a neat move which Sylvain Legwinski failed to finish, the Frenchman heading wastefully wide.

Fulham rarely threatened Middlesbrough's goal and looked to be heading for their first defeat of the season until Sean Davis and Facundo Sava both struck in the last minute to earn the Cottagers a valuable point.

In the Netherlands, Ono sent over a left-wing cross for Paauwe to score in the 13th minute after the Roda defense had failed to clear but Soetaers grabbed his first of the afternoon to level for the home side six minutes before the interval.

Feyenoord looked to have grabbed the points from an enthralling match when Pierre Van Hooijdonk scored from a free kick eight minutes from time before Soetaers completed his brace to earn Roda a share of the spoils in the 87th minute.
