Taiwanese Wei Yun-jye carded a flawless 5-under-par 67 to share the lead with unheralded Atsuko Ueno after the first round of the NEC Karuizawa 72 tournament on Friday.
Wei, who had four top-10 finishes in eight tournaments last year after obtaining a Japan LPGA tour card in September, highlighted her round with a 15-footer on the 345-yard 15th for her fifth birdie at the Karuizawa 72 Golf, North Course.
Back after being laid up with a broken toe, U.S. LPGA regular Akiko Fukushima, winner of this tournament in 1996, features among a group of seven players tied at 68.
