Australia's Brad Andrews birdied six of the last seven holes in a bogey-free 7-under-par 65 on Thursday to take the lead after the first round of the Sun Chlorella Classic.

The Canadian-born 37-year-old birdied the fifth hole for a pedestrian 35 on the outward nine before setting fire to the Sapporo Bay Golf Club's back nine with four straight birdies from No. 12 and two straight from No. 17 to sit one shot ahead of an all-foreign trio of golfers.

India's Jeev Milkha Singh also enjoyed a flawless round en route to a 66 that featured six birdies to share a three-way tie with Brendan Jones of Australia and Taiwan's Lin Chien-bing.

Toru Taniguchi, Tsuneyuki Nakajima and Naomichi Ozaki were the big names among six golfers who shot 67s while Sun Chlorella defending champion Hiroyuki Fujita had a 70.
