OSAKA -- A rejuvenated Danny Wuerffel threw three touchdown passes to lead the Washington Redskins to a 38-7 rout of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at the Osaka Dome in a preseason game that marked the NFL coaching debut of Steve Spurrier.
Wuerffel had success in a system he was familiar with from his days as a collegian under Spurrier at the University of Florida and showed people why he was the Heisman Trophy winner in 1996.
"We're proud of our team," said Spurrier, who took over the Redskins in the earlier this year. "Before the game, I told my players it's no big deal if we do well or if we do poorly. But we wanted to do well and win. Our guys went out and played very well.
