Japan World Cup striker Takayuki Suzuki said Tuesday he is determined to make his first season at Genk a successful one, two days after he joined the Belgian First Division champion on a one-year loan.

"It did not take me long to decide on the move. I know it will be difficult adjusting to new, tough surroundings but I'm very determined to make my time there a success," said Suzuki, who left Japan later Tuesday in order to arrive in Belgium in time to register for the European Champions League.

Genk officials made an offer to the Kashima Antlers for the 26-year-old's services earlier this month and began negotiations Friday before signing him to a one-year loan deal with the option of a further three-year contract.

"I'd say I'm a lot more relaxed now than when I went to Brazil," Suzuki added, referring to his brief spell with Rio de Janeiro FC in 1997.
