Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who won the men's singles at Wimbledon last week, will take part in the AIG Japan Open tennis tournament this fall, organizers of the event announced Monday.
The annual tourney runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 10 at Tokyo's Ariake Tennis Forest when 56 men and 30 women are to compete.
French Open runnerup Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain and Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador will also play in the $800,000 men's competition. On the women's side, Japan's Ai Sugiyama and former world No. 1 Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario are expected to battle in the $170,000 tournament.
During the tournament, former Japanese tennis queen Kimiko Date will take on Mary Joe Fernandez in an exhibition match on Oct. 4.
