OSAKA -- Turkey reached the semifinals of the World Cup with a golden goal in the third-minute of extra time on a great piece of finishing from second-half substitute Iihan Mansiz that gave his side a 1-0 victory over Senegal at Nagai Stadium on Saturday.
A speedy move down the left saw Umit Davala whip in a low cross that Mansiz latched onto with a first-time half-volley that left Senegal 'keeper Tony Sylva stranded and ended his country's dream run in the competition.
Turkey coach Senol Gunes said the win had given Turkish soccer one of its greatest days. "Everybody in Turkish football has put in a lot of effort -- we are now living one of our most important days," he said.
