MORIMACHI, Shizuoka Pref. -- "I've had a wonderful four years. I'm proud of having worked for the national team of Japan," outgoing Japan coach Philippe Troussier said on Wednesday, a day after the World Cup cohost was eliminated from the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Turkey.
"We achieved our goal of qualifying for the Round of 16 after winning the group with seven points. That's a fantastic result and was achieved because we established a good relationship of trust in the team. I'm really proud of the achievements of the 23 selected players," Troussier said in his final press conference at Japan's World Cup media center in Morimachi, Shizuoka Prefecture. The Frenchman had already announced his departure from the national team before the start of the World Cup.
