Leftover tickets for games in the knockout stages of the World Cup soccer finals in Japan will be sold online and by phone the day before the matches, the Japanese World Cup organizing committee (JAWOC) said Thursday.
The decision made late Wednesday to sell tickets for six games in Japan in the Round of 16, or second round, and for quarterfinal matches on June 21-22 comes after an agreement was reached among JAWOC, soccer's world governing body FIFA, its ticketing agent British firm Byrom PLC, and the South Korean World Cup organizing committee (KOWOC).
The procedure will be the same as for first-round matches -- JAWOC will sell half the available tickets by phone and FIFA will sell the other half via its FIFA World Cup Ticketing Bureau Web site, which is operated by Byrom, according to JAWOC officials.
