Hammer thrower Koji Murofushi and short distance runner Nobuharu Asahara were among the 55 athletes named Monday by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) into the national team for this fall's Asian Games in Pusan, South Korea.
World silver medalist Murofushi, who won his eighth straight national title on Sunday, and Asahara, who set a meet record of 10.05 seconds in the men's 100 meters for his third national crown, were selected into the group consisting of 30 men and 25 women.
Sprinter Motoka Arai, distance runner Kayoko Fukushi, who won her first national title in the 10,000 meters last Friday, and 100-meter hurdles national record holder Yvonne Kanazawa were among the women named in the group.
