CHONJU, South Korea -- Spain booked its place in the second round of the World Cup with what was eventually a straightforward 3-1 win over Paraguay here on Thursday, although it was the South Americans who had actually taken the lead early in the game.
Consistent under-achievers at the highest level of international soccer, great things were anticipated of the Spanish team at these World Cup finals. While this result may not have been the spectacular win that its fans in the stadium had hoped for, it was a solid performance from a team that may well feel that this year is its year.
Spain coach Jose Antonio Camacho was delighted with his team.
