Mikino Kubo parred the seventh extra hole Sunday to win a three-way playoff with Toshimi Kimura and Rena Yamazaki at the Vernal Ladies golf tournament.
Kubo, who led the tournament after two rounds, carded back-to-back bogeys twice at the Fukuoka Century Golf Club on her way to a 75 and barely managed to scrape into a playoff spot with a 3-under 213 total.
In the playoff, third-year pro Yamazaki was the first to fall out of the threesome as Kubo and Kimura each birdied the par-5 18th.
On the seventh playoff hole, Kubo had two putts to win after Kimura made a bogey, tapping in from three feet on the second putt.
