Japan striker Akinori Nishizawa has been discharged from hospital after having his appendix removed and is set to rejoin his teammates for the upcoming friendly against Norway in Oslo, the Japan Football Association said Thursday.

Nishizawa underwent the operation on Monday and was first expected to be hospitalized for around 10 days but doctors at the Madrid hospital said he is making a steady recovery and will be able to start rehabilitation.

The 25-year-old Cerezo Osaka forward had complained of pains in his side shortly after arriving in Spain with the national team for Tuesday's friendly with Real Madrid and was diagnosed with acute appendicitis.
