Colombian striker Edwin Congo touched in a 27th-minute Roberto Carlos free-kick as Real Madrid beat Japan 1-0 Tuesday in a friendly at Bernabeu Stadium.

A constant downpour throughout the 90 minutes prevented either side from finding any rhythm in a match to celebrate the Spanish club's centenary year, with the World Cup cohosts going down to their first defeat in six warmup games this year.

"It's difficult to play a proper match in conditions like this. We defended with great spirit but we were wasteful with our chances up front," said Japan coach Philippe Troussier.

"I'm not going to analyze this game. The conditions were too bad to make conclusions.
