World silver-medalist Koji Murofushi threw for a mediocre distance in the hammer throw Monday but still notched his first victory of the season at the Oda memorial track and field meet.

Murofushi, the Japanese national record holder in the event who took the silver at last year's world championship meet in Edmonton, Canada, threw for a distance of just 78.37 meters to take the title at Hiroshima's Big Arch stadium.

In other events, Miwako Manaka cruised to victory in the women's 10,000 meters in a time of 15 minutes, 35.05 seconds while Julius Maina hit the tape in 13:37.40 in the men's 5,000. In the women's long jump, national record holder Maho Hanaoka recorded a leap of 6.55 meters to claim victory while Kumiko Ikeda finished second with a jump of 6.23.
