ICHIHARA, Chiba Pref. -- JEF United got off to a good start in its Nabisco Cup campaign by beating the Yokohama F. Marinos 2-0 at Ichihara Seaside Stadium on Saturday, the opening day of the annual tournament.
The Marinos, currently leading the Division One first stage with a 6-1-0 record, picked up their first loss of the season in any form of game, while JEF snapped its winless streak at five games.
JEF midfielder Shinichi Muto broke the deadlock two minutes after the break, chesting in a pass from Edin Mujcin. Four minutes later, the 29-year-old Muto latched on to a long feed from midfielder Yuki Abe, cut into the box and calmly slotted a close-range shot into the net to make it 2-0.
