One of the best moves the Hanshin Tigers have made this year is to bring back former star first baseman Tom O'Malley as a coach and invite him to stay on throughout the 2002 season. There is no doubt the addition of his presence to an already electrified atmosphere surrounding the Tigers manager, coaches, players, staff and fans has made it super-electrified.
Ironically, it was the arrest on tax evasion charges of the wife of O'Malley's former boss which led to a series of personnel changes by Hanshin, including the decision in mid-February, to ask O'Malley to permanently join the Tigers' brain trust.
