Third-favorite Shonan Kampf took the early lead and ran away from the field down the final stretch Sunday to win the 32nd running of the Prince Takamatsu Memorial race.

Shonan Kampf clocked 1 minute, 8.4 seconds over 1,200 meters on turf at Chukyo Racecourse to win by 3 1/2 lengths over Admire Cozzene and claim the 94 million yen first prize for his first Grade One victory.

Shonan Kampf burst into the lead out of the gates with Admire Cozzene falling in right behind throughout most of the race.

Heading into the final stretch, Shonan Kampf thundered away from the 18-horse field for the easy win. Admire Cozzene held onto second by a neck over Stinger.

Favorite and defending champion Trot Star moved up through the middle for fifth place -- about five lengths behind the winner.
