Australian defender Ned Zelic has left Kyoto Purple Sanga after playing just one game for the J. League first division side, Kyoto officials announced Sunday.

The 30-year-old Zelic, who joined Kyoto from German club 1860 Munich in January, decided to part company with the club after his family scrapped their plan to move to Japan from Germany, Kyoto officials said. He left Japan on Sunday.

Zelic made 33 international appearances for Australia between 1991 and 1997 and has played for such European clubs as Borussia Dortmund, Queens Park Rangers, Eintracht Frankfurt and Auxerre.

Kyoto returned to the top flight after winning last year's J2 championship but is without a point after two games of the first stage of the 2002 season.
