Japanese Olympic team member Gen Tomii and high school student Taihei Kato hit the longest jumps of the day Thursday to share the lead after the jumping section of the Nordic Combined National Championships. Tomii had jumps of 83.5 and 88 meters while Kato leaped 88 and 87.5 meters on the K-90 hill at Miyanomori Schanze in Sapporo with the Olympian gaining important style points to grab a share of the lead with 212.0 points. "My jumps were no good. I'm not doing them the way I've been practicing," said Tomii, who was 12th in the jumping event at the just concluded Salt Lake Winter Olympics, but slumped to 33rd in the cross-country race.
