New San Francisco Giants acquisition Tsuyoshi Shinjo will make a rare appearance as a leadoff man in the National League club's intrasquad game Wednesday.
Shinjo, who mostly batted sixth or seventh in the New York Mets lineup last season in his rookie year in the major leagues, was assigned the unaccustomed role Tuesday -- two days before the Giants' preseason opener against the Chicago Cubs.
"It'll be the same. I'll just keep up the 'Shinjo style.' I'm looking forward to getting the feel for playing in a game again, but I have to control myself not to get too excited and injured," Shinjo said when asked if he was under pressure from the new role.
