Sanfrecce Hiroshima has signed Cameroon international defender Michel Pensee on loan for the season, the J. League club said Monday.

The 28-year-old, who played for Cameroon at the last World Cup in France four years ago, signed a deal through Jan. 1 next year.

Pensee played in the Russian first division last year with Anji Makhachkala and links up with ex-boss Gadzhi Gadzhiev, who left Anji to take charge of Sanfrecce for the 2002 J. League season.

Hiroshima finished third in the second stage last year and kicks off its 2002 campaign at home to Consadole Sapporo on Sunday. But it will be without its captain, Japan international defender Kenichi Uemura, who is out for the season after tearing knee ligaments.
