Japan midfielder Shinji Ono set up the only goal as Feyenoord beat Groningen 1-0 away Sunday to retain the lead at the top of the Dutch First Division on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Parma continued to climb away from the Serie A danger zone after a 1-0 home win over Lazio, but record-signing Hidetoshi Nakata was back on the bench and only came on for the last five minutes.

Danish striker Jon Dahl Tomasson's scored a well-taken goal on the stroke of half-time to grab all three points at Oosterparkstadion as Feyenoord maintained its title challenge despite a poor performance.

Ono had an excellent game on the right side of midfield, causing problems for the home side defense. He popped up on the left flank in first-half injury time and crossed in for the goal and was one of the few players to shine for the visitors.
