The Yomiuri Giants on Monday formally signed major league right-hander John Wasdin to a one-year contract and signing bonus worth an estimated $2.2 million.
Wasdin, who is expected to fill the hole left by the departure of southpaw Darrell May, said he would give "110 percent" in every game, adding that he hoped to contribute to the Central League club.
Wasdin, 29, who played with the Colorado Rockies and Baltimore Orioles last season, had 64 strikeouts in 73 innings of 44 games last season. He was 8-3 with a 4.12 earned run average with the Boston Red Sox in 1999.
