Austria found no difficulty hanging on to its first-round lead and overpowered host Japan, claiming its second victory of the season in a World Cup team ski-jumping competition Sunday.

The Austrian quartet of Andreas Widhoelzl -- who won both of the individual meets in the Japan leg Thursday and Saturday -- Stefan Horngacher, Wolfgang Loitzl and Martin Koch collected 1,006.7 points at the K-120 Okurayama Hill.

Japan's Hideharu Miyahira, Hiroki Yamada, Noriaki Kasai and Kazuyoshi Funaki finished 58.9 points behind for a distant second, which translates into about 33 meters in distance over eight jumps.

Widhoelzl and Koch lifted the potent Austrian squad by matching each other with the day's longest leap of 136 meters on their second attempts in the final World Cup event before the Salt Lake City Olympics.

Defending Olympic champion Japan led much of the first round thanks to a 130.5-meter leap by Yamada, but saw its lead turn into a 5.1-point deficit at the halfway point after a lackluster 109.5-meter jump by anchor Funaki.

Yamada turned in another solid performance of 128.5 meters in the second round and Kasai, third in Saturday's individual meet at the same hill, followed his 125.5-meter first effort with a steady jump of 123.5 meters.

However, none of the Japanese jumpers traveled over 130 meters and they failed to pose a threat to the Austrians after the interval.
