Daito Takahashi, who has been named to the Japanese team for February's Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, matched his career best on the World Cup circuit Thursday when he finished sixth in a Nordic combined sprint event.

Takahashi placed sixth after a 90.5-meter leap in the K-90 ski jumping portion and retained his position in the 7.5-km cross country race for his fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Overall World Cup leader Ronny Ackermann of Germany claimed his fourth victory this winter in a close finish, edging Felix Gottwald of Germany by just 0.3 seconds. Finland's Samppa Lajunen came third.

Japan's Gen Tomii finished 19th and former world champion Kenji Ogiwara was 24th.
