Japan coach Philippe Troussier has been placed on a short list by the Scottish Football Association as a candidate for manager of Scotland after the 2002 World Cup, a Scottish daily tabloid reported on Thursday.
The Scottish F.A. has been impressed with Troussier's coaching career although ex-Germany manager Berti Vogts is also said to be a contender for the post to succeed Craig Brown, the Glasgow Daily Record said.
Before taking the helm of the Japan national team three years ago, Troussier helped Nigeria qualify for the 1998 World Cup and coached South Africa in France '98.
Troussier, who is now in Tokyo making plans for the remaining months ahead of the World Cup, was not immediately available for comment.
However, the Frenchman has previously expressed his intention to leave the Japan job after the World Cup, regardless of whether or not he leads Japan to a good showing.
