Major League Baseball's official Web site revealed Tuesday that the New York Mets have signed free-agent right-hander Satoru Komiyama for next season and will most likely make an official announcement this week.

According to the site, the National League team acquired the 36-year-old, seen as "a control pitcher who is expected to vie for time in the back end of the rotation or middle relief and possibly unseat one of New York's back-end starters."

Komiyama, who is still waiting to hear from his agent, declined to comment in detail, saying "I will let you know everything when it is confirmed."

Komiyama, who was Lotte's top draft pick in 1990, turned down the Mets in 1999 to spend two years with the Yokohama BayStars but declared free agency at the end of this season.
