MIYAZAKI -- The world's No. 3 ranked golfer David Duval survived a nightmare finish to his final round to win the 200 million yen Dunlop Phoenix Tournament Sunday after beating Taichi Teshima in a playoff.
Duval shot a 2-under-par 69 but blew a six-shot lead and finished level with Teshima after 72 holes at Phoenix Country Club on 269. He won with a birdie at the first extra hole to secure victory in his first tournament on the Japanese circuit.
The British Open champion was cruising at the turn after four straight birdies, but a bogey on the 14th was followed by a double bogey on the 17th, when Duval four-putted the 186-yard par-3 hole. Duval thus lost sole possession of the lead he had held since the first round.
