Japan Series MVP Atsuya Furuta was named Thursday to his ninth Golden Glove team for excellence on defense while leading the Yakult Swallows to the Central League pennant and Japan Series championship this past season.
Yakult put a total of four players, along with Furuta, on the Golden Glove team in the Central League as determined in a poll of baseball journalists.
Roberto Petagine, earlier named the CL's Most Valuable Player, and Akinori Iwamura received their second Golden Glove awards at first base and third base, respectively.
Shinya Miyamoto was named at shortstop for a fourth time, topping all vote getters in the CL by being named on 132 of the 150 ballots.
Yomiuri Giants outfielder Yoshinobu Takahashi won his fourth straight Golden Glove since becoming a pro four years ago.
