Japan swept Germany's trio of wrestlers out of the ring in the final of the men's team event Sunday to reclaim the title and prevent a German sweep on the final day of the amateur sumo World Championship meet.

Takahisa Osanai, Izumi Uchida and Masato Miyoshi each backed their German opponents out of the ring at Aomori Prefectural Martial Arts Hall to secure Japan's ninth team title in the world meet and avenge their loss last year to the same German squad.

Despite the loss, German wrestlers won three of the four titles at stake on the final day of the meet with Torsten Scheibler taking the men's open crown and Sandra Koppen winning the first women's open title and chipping in with another win in the team event.
