South Korean skaters swept the gold and silver medals in both the men's and women's 1,500-meter events Friday on the first day of the World Cup short track speed skating meet.

Ko Gi Hyun and Joo Min Jin were one-two in the women's event at Teisan Ice Skate Training Center in Nagano Prefecture while Lee Seung Jae and Kim Dong Sung took the top two medals in the men's final.

Chinese skaters Yang Yang (A) and Li Jiajun took the bronze medals in the women's and men's event respectively. Japan's best showing of the day was turned in by Chikage Tanaka who squeezed out a fourth place in the women's final while Japan's Naoya Tamura finished fourth in the men's race but was disqualified for path obstruction with one lap to go.
