Vegalta Sendai manager Hidehiko Shimizu earned his 125th career win as a manager Friday as his teams beat Yokohama FC 4-3 in J. League Division Two action.
It marks a record for a Japanese club boss. Shimizu broke the previous record, set by former Japan and Yokohama Flugels manager Shu Kamo, in his 11th season after making his debut as manager on Sept. 5, 1991, with Nissan FC -- the predecessor of the Yokohama F. Marinos -- in the Japan Soccer League. Shimizu, 46, then managed the Marinos, Avispa Fukuoka and Kyoto Purple Sanga before joining Sendai.
Verdy bans fan
Tokyo Verdy 1969 has banned one of its fans from attending all of its official games for the rest of the season for hurting a schoolboy by throwing a chair, the J. League Division One club announced Friday.
The incident happened on Sept. 8 at Tokyo Stadium. After Verdy fell to Jubilo Iwata 2-1 in extra time, some Verdy fans among the 24,024 spectators started causing trouble, breaking chairs in the stands and throwing them toward the pitch.
One of these missiles hit a primary school student, hurting his leg.
The boy went home after receiving treatment by the stadium doctor.
The injury was not serious, the club said.
