Brazilian Tita has resigned as manager of Urawa Reds, the J. League first-division club announced Monday.

The former Brazilian World Cup player handed in his resignation on Friday for personal reasons and the club confirmed the departure of the 43-year-old after failing to persuade him to stay.

Under the guidance of Tita, Urawa finished in a creditable seventh place in the first stage in its first season back in the top flight after a season in the second division. The club, however, also lost star player Shinji Ono, who moved to Feyenoord in July.

The club did not name an immediate replacement, but is expected to ask Brazilian Pita, who joined the Urawa backroom staff during the mid-season break, to take charge of team affairs.
