Hawaiian Dean Wilson breezed into the final of the Japan PGA Matchplay Championship, powering past Hiroyuki Fujita 4 and 3 in the semifinals Saturday to meet Taiwan's Lin Keng-chi in Sunday's 36-hole decider.

Lin, who defeated last year's runnerup Toru Taniguchi 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals in the morning, overcame an early two-hole deficit to beat Frankie Minoza of the Philippines by the same score in the semifinals at the Nidom Classic Golf Course in Hokkaido.

Wilson blew apart Toru Suzuki 6 and 4 in his morning round and his rich vein of form continued after lunch, running in birdies at seven of the 14 holes to ensure the final will be all-foreign affair for the first time in the history of the event.

"I won the semifinal on the front nine but I think the eighth was the turning point today. I was able to relax after I had gotten to the turn four up," Wilson said.

The winner in Sunday's showdown will not only pick up the 30 million yen winner's check but will jump to the top of this year's money list.

Davies takes charge

KAWAGUCHIKO, Yamanashi Pref. (Kyodo) Former world No. 1 Laura Davies of England overcame a bogey on the opening hole to shoot a sparkling 4-under-par 67 and storm into the lead after the second round of the Fujisankei Ladies Classic on Saturday.

Teeing off four strokes back, Davies holed seven birdies -- three straight from No. 2 -- against two more bogeys to head into Sunday's final round with a 3-under 139 and a one-stroke advantage.

First-round pacesetter Harumi Sakagami stayed in contention for her first victory since the winning the 1998 Goyo Kensetsu Ladies, despite carding a 1-over 72. Sakagami sits one shot back with Yoko Tsuchiya, who went round the 6,297-yard layout in even-par 71.
