World silver medalist Midori Shintani and Masato Uchishiba added to Japan's collection of gold medals in judo at the University Games in Beijing on Sunday.

Shintani beat local favorite Tong Wen in the semifinals and then pinned down South Korea's Cho Su Hee in the final of the women's open category to complete a streak of four ippon wins at Guangan Gymnasium.

Uchishiba joined Shintani with a comprehensive victory as he capped his own ippon spree by holding the shoulders of V. Khositashvili of Georgia in the men's 60-kg final.

In the women's 48-kg, Kayo Kitada lost to China's Gao Lijuan in the semifinals but managed the bronze with an ippon win over Romania's Laura Moise.

In gymnastics, Hiroyuki Tomita added a gold medal on the parallel bars and a silver in the pommel horse. In the pool, Takahiro Mori edged Kevin Clements of the United States by 0.01 of a second to win the gold medal in the men's 200-meter individual medley in 2 minutes, 2.34 seconds.
