Belgium grabbed the gold medal in the men's 4x50 meters obstacle relay in the lifesaving competition setting a new record at the sixth World Games in Akita Prefecture on Friday.

The Belgium quartet finished in a time of 1 minute, 42.24 seconds, followed by Germany and Australia.

In the women's event, Belgium also took gold with a World Games record time of 1:57.03 while Australia claimed the silver followed by South Africa.

In the women's individual 200 meters obstacle race, Australia's Kate Krywulycz set a new meet record of 2:13.01. She was followed home by Belgium's Bieke Vandenabeele in 2:13.43 and South Africa's Stacey Bowley.

In the men's 200 meters obstacles, Belgium's Roel Jansen also dipped under the previous meet best, winning in 2:00.14 with Australia's Stephen Short taking second in 2:01.67. Italy's Germano Proietti was third, clocking 2:01.90.

In the men's 100 meters combined rescue, Germany's Lutz Heimann placed first with a world-record time of 1:06.11 ahead of Australia's Jason O'Pray, who finished in 1:06.40.

In the women's 100 meters combined rescue, Australia's Leigh Habler placed first, blowing away the competition and knocking over a second off the world record in a time of 1:18.74 while Germany's Jana Pescheck placed second in 1:20.14.
