Nichidai Daisan ace Kazuki Kondo held Omi batters to a pair of runs on seven hits Wednesday as the Tokyo school won the National High School Championship baseballcrown with a 5-2 triumph at Koshien Stadium.

The title is the first for the Nihon University affiliate school in the summer tournament and the fifth overall for Tokyo schools in the 83 years of the mid-August classic. Nichidai Daisan also won the Spring Invitational Championship in 1971.

Teikyo last won the championship for Tokyo in 1995 and Obirin was the last representative from the western Tokyo qualifying region, like Nichidai Daisan, to take home the championship flag when it did the trick in 1975.

"The only thing I can say is that this team has done a great job," manager Masayoshi Ogura said struggling to choke back the emotions welling up inside.
