Japan Aviation ace Tomoya Yagi scattered nine hits over the distance Wednesday to lead the Yamanashi school 4-1 over Okinawa's Ginoza and into the third round of the high school baseball national championship tournament.

Yoshiyuki Misawa tripled home a run in the first at Koshien Stadium and the lightly regarded Yamanashi school scored in each of the first four frames to upend Ginoza, a semifinalist in the spring invitational tourney in April. In the second game, Ehime's Matsuyama Shogyo forged a seven-run lead over seven innings and then held on for a nail-biting 8-6 win over Kyusandai Kyushu of Fukuoka.

In the third game, Yuji Hata threw a five-hit shutout and Yusuke Osaka connected for a key two-run single in the ninth as Nara's Chiben Gakuen edged Maebashi Kogyo of Gunma Prefecture 3-0.

It was win No. 100 for Nara schools overall in the spring and summer tourneys.

In the final game of the day, Narashino catcher Ryo Shiratori belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning as the Chiba high school edged Meitoku Gijuku of Kochi 2-1.
