Olympic marathon silver-medalists Lidia Simon of Romania and James Wainaina of Kenya each won their races Sunday in the Sapporo international half-marathon.

Simon edged Japanese distance hope Mizuki Noguchi by 5 seconds at Maruyama Stadium to claim her second title in the annual meet, winning in 1 hour, 9 minutes, 46 seconds.

Wainaina ran away from the field for the men's title with a time of 1:01:52 for his first championship, beating fellow Japan-based Kenyan Daniel Njenga into second place by more than a minute.
