Japan standoff Kensuke Iwabuchi said Monday that he has signed an extension to his one-year contract with English Premier League rugby club Saracens until July next year.
The former Kobe Steel star, who became the first Japanese player in the English Premiership when he made his debut against Northampton in December last year has struggled to make an impact in the professional league and has been limited to just two appearances as substitute.
However, Iwabuchi was upbeat about his prospects for next season, saying "I didn't think about a transfer. I want to stay another year at Saracens.
I'd like to get on the pitch and show what I can do." Iwabuchi played for Japan in the 53-30 defeat against Wales on Sunday but will join his club teammates for preparations for next season following Japan's Pacific Rim campaign in July.
